Memories of Norm Schureman

My feeble attempt at a caricature of Norm, I did this a while ago and I don't mean any offense in posting it, it's a drawing exemplifying my appreciation of him. During critiques Norm would tilt his head and look at one above his glasses, something that made my blood run cold but eventually got a kick out of.

Thank you Norm for your inspiration and for pushing me to do my best. I first saw the drawings of Norm and his amazing students when I was taking Saturday High classes, our class was using a room that happened to have books from his students lined up on all the tables. To say it blew my mind would be an understatement: I knew right then and there that I had to learn how to draw like that, and I can see that so many of the aspiring designers and artists at my school and elsewhere can relate.

Norm was always demanding the best from students in his classes, and even when I was not able to do as well as I should he still supported me.

When I heard the news about his passing I was in a complete state of shock and denial, how could this man who was consistently an enthusiastic supporter of all of his students be so suddenly taken away? I will always be grateful I was able to learn from him and I know the things he taught will be passed on to others. My thoughts go out to his family.
